The three pairs of adverts all follow the same notion as they are all selling a product. We decided that over reading week we should transcribe and analyse the advertisements to see if we can distinguish any phonological and grammatical differences or similarities. Therefore, we divided the adverts up so each member of the group has to transcribe and analyse one advert, with one group member doing two. We will also carry on researching literature that supports our findings.
In week seven, we will come back together as a group to discuss our findings and read over our analysis of the adverts.
Glad this project is moving along again now. Be careful with your expression. I don't think 'notion' is the word you want here, and your reading should not be only to 'support your findings' (see Emily's notes and also the relevant sections of the textbook).
ReplyDeleteIt's good to divide the work up, but be careful that any comparisons you make are really accurate: it would be quite easy for two transcribers to do the task slightly differently, so that you would think there are differences in your data when really they are differences in two people's interpretation of the method. A better plan would be to give each person two ads to transcribe, mixing them so that every ad has been seen by two people and no two people have the same pair of ads. Then you can all compare the two transcripts for each add and this would strengthen inter-rater reliability (see textbook pp 228-9).
I hope the work you do in Reading Week goes well.
