Minutes, 22/10

In this week's meeting, the group discussed the feedback given to our project proposal, noted useful modifications therein and briefly examined our options when it comes to recording adverts to transcribe - such as the use of advert archives.

However, our main focus this week was what the next step in our work plan will involve: namely the research into our topic area using published literature. We decided that since the direction of our analysis will largely be decided by the data we transcribe, we should broaden the types of information we will deem useful to pick out from pre-existing literature, to cover mainly information about general differences between language presentation in TV and radio, so as to build a pool of background knowledge which could be useful.

We also discussed what kinds of advert will be of most interest to us; the genres of cosmetics, automotive and insurance were deemed likely to have parallel advertisements between TV and radio, from our personal recollection. Beyond the research stage, we aim to analyse three pairs of adverts (each comprised of one TV and one radio counterpart).

Our next meeting will take place on 29/10 in which we will feedback to each other relevant information from literature.
